The Maadhyam Experience Center works with around 50 children and youth between the age group of 6–18 years living in the slum area of Kusumpur Pahari, New Delhi. The parents of these children usually consist of migrant labourers from across the country. Most of them are either daily-wage labourers including rickshaw pullers, construction-site workers, household helps etc. or are unemployed. These children are mostly first generation learners and their unschooled parents are unable to provide the support that every student requires. Moreover the schools that these children attend are inadequate and are unfortunately unable to build relevant skill sets for these children, thereby resulting in high dropout rates, especially amongst the girls. Due to prevalent cultural practices, the girls are often not sent to school at all and are usually married off early
Trust has also supported the children for various other activities from its sources. There has been tremendous growth in the overall development of the children. Our children gave very good performance in various activities at a function organised by Vishva Yuvak Kendra, Chanakyapuri.
